Mangroves
Begin the river tour admiring this natural wonder
Included in your admission
At the beginning of the Xel-Há River, there is an area we give special care for since it has enormous relevance to the ecosystem. Mangroves are a fundamental piece in the region's environmental balance, and there are wide extensions of them in Mexico.
In the state of Quintana Roo, can be found four different species of mangrove such as white, red, black, and buttonwood. One of its functions in the ecosystem is to serve as a refuge during adverse weather conditions, plus being home to several crustaceans, mammals, and bird species.
The red mangrove is the only species that lives in saltwater, provides nutrients for corals on reefs, and functions as a natural filter for water. Likewise, when hurricanes take place, their protection is essential as a barrier and prevents coast erosion.
When you start the river tour that leads you to our spectacular inlet, stop for a moment to admire this species. We suggest you follow the signs at the starting point to find a platform where you'll find yourself surrounded by mangroves.
